Forgiveness. It’s one of the hardest things to do. In the Bible, the Greek word translated "forgiveness" literally means "to let go," such as when a person does not demand payment for a debt.
Lewis B. Smedes once said, “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and then discover that the prisoner was you.”
God is merciful to forgive. We, too, should be merciful and forgive. Luke 17:3 - “Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.”
Forgiveness,
It flies in the face of all your pride, it moves away the mad inside.
It's always anger's own worst enemy.
Even when the jury and the judge say you've got a right to hold a grudge,
It's the whisper in your ear saying, “set it free.”
Show me how to love the unlovable; show me how to reach the unreachable.
Help me now to do the impossible … Forgiveness.
It'll clear the bitterness away; it can even set a prisoner free!
There is no end to what its power can do,
So let it go and be amazed by what you see through eyes of grace.
The prisoner that it really frees is you!
I want to finally set it free. Show me how to see what Your mercy sees.
Help me now to give what You gave to me … Forgiveness.
Have you wronged someone? Humble yourself and ask for forgiveness. Has someone wronged you? Humble yourself and forgive them. Set yourself free!
Matthew 6:14 – “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:”
If God can forgive your sin, you must find it in your heart to forgive others. Don’t be a prisoner.
Psalms 32:1 - “(A Psalm of David, Maschil.) Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Forgiveness sets a prisoner free – are you a prisoner? Listen to the powerful story behind the song.
