Faithful Through It All

There’s a verse in the Bible that tells us to thank God for every thing. EVERY thing. 1Thessalonians 5:18 - “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Giving thanks to God … through prayer.

The more we pray, the more we recognize the need to pray; we are drawn closer to the LORD as our relationship grows more intimate with Him. We will see prayers answered, whether or not they are answered in the way we desired, and we’ll also be able to look back and see clearly the prayers answered that we didn’t even ask for!

But thank God for EVERY thing? Even that promotion at work given to another? or that bad health report? or for the car breaking down on the family trip?

YES. EVERY thing.

We may not understand why God puts trials in our life, but He’s always got a purpose and plan … and even though it may be troublesome at the time, we have to trust Him. He always wants the best for us and gives us trials to teach or test us, and to show us He is faithful.

The missed promotion? Maybe He’s got a better job waiting for you.

The bad health report? Maybe someone with the same illness needs to hear your testimony. The car trouble? Maybe the mechanic will observe your witness of patience and rejoicing that your family is safe instead of complaining about the car problem.

Thanking God for every thing … learning to listen to the Holy Spirit. After God tells us to give thanks for every thing, the next verse says: 1Thessalonians 5:19 - “Quench not the Spirit.” Christ-followers, we must be careful to listen to the Holy Spirit and what our heart is telling us rather than what our mind or the world says. God’s plan is always better than ours!

Today’s song lyrics explain this truth so well …

I've had many tears and sorrows;
 I've had questions for tomorrow;
 There's been times I didn't know right from wrong.
 But in every situation,
 God gave me blessed consolation
 That my trials come to only make me strong.
 I've been to alot of places,
 And I've seen millions of faces,
 But there were times that I felt so all alone.
 But in my lonely hours,
 Yes, those precious lonely hours,
 Jesus let me know that I was His own!
 That's the reason I say that
 Through it all, through it all,
 I've learned to trust in Jesus;
 I've learned to trust in God.
 I've learned to depend upon His Word.
 So I thank God for the mountains,
 And I thank Him for the valleys,
 And I thank him for the storms He brought me through.
 For if I'd never had a problem,
 I'd never know that God could solve them;
 I'd never know what faith in His Word could do.
