It’s May Day!
Throughout the years, there have been different traditions for May Day. The celebration of spring and seasonal flowers is most common in the United States. In the 19th century, a new meaning of May Day came about … it also became known as International Workers’ Day for labor rights and an eight hour work-day. In Hawaii, May Day is known as “Lei Day”, a celebration of the aloha spirit and the giving of the flower. Today, Americans celebrate by making flower baskets and treats to share with loved ones.
God wants us to give and to love. In fact, He commands us to love. John 13:34-35 - “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be.
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He.
Word became flesh and the light shined among us, His glory revealed.
Living, He loved me; Dying, He saved me; Buried, He carried my sins far away.
Rising, He justified freely forever! One day He's coming, Oh glorious day!
People need to be loved! It’s how people can tell we are Christ’s disciples. What a great way to show His love and celebrate May Day, by giving flower baskets and treats to someone. Slip a Bible tract or print a Bible verse and include it in the basket. It will surely brighten someone’s day!
Jesus loved us so much He gave Himself as an offering for us. One day He’s coming back. Until that glorious day, we are to love others and put their needs above our own … just as Jesus did. How do we do that? By putting action behind the words. Ephesians 5:2 - “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
However you spend today, give all the glory to God! 1Corinthians 10:31 - “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
