Today’s song is a reminder of how easy it is for Christ-followers to slip into worldly ways and forget the grace of God. The same grace of our Lord that saves us is the same grace that builds us up when we are weak. The more difficult our circumstance, the more we must cling to His grace. God is our sufficiency. The Bible tells us we will never be tried above what we are able. We are limited, but His grace is unlimited! The devil knows our weaknesses and uses fear to deceive. He wants to knock us down so we will feel defeated and unworthy. When those times come, we need God’s grace and strength to overcome these spiritual battles.
1Corinthians 10:13 - “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 2Corinthians 12:9a – “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness …” Hebrews 4:16 - “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” James 4:6 - “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” 2Timothy 2:1 – “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:31 - “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Here are some of the song lyrics … “I let the devil in my house today. We sat on the couch and talked a lot about a lot of things, like how misery loves company. I should've sent him home but I let him stay; his subtle smile is so convincing and giving into him is so easy. Oh, Lord, save my soul! Where I'm weak only he and you know. Help me change my ways and give me strength to walk away when he's at my door. I pray I don't fall for him anymore. The lonely's creeping in and my faith is shaken. He stole my heart and watched it break. Only God knows where I'll find my strength to let this be the last time I say, I let the devil in my house today.”
When the devil comes knockin’, rebuke him, humble yourself, turn it over to God and trust Him. His grace is dependable … and if God is for us, who can stand against?
