Most people would agree that Whitney Houston had one of the greatest singing voices of modern times. We are all created in the image of God with special abilities that make us unique. You may not be able to sing like Whitney, but maybe you can play the piano like Jim Brickman, write poetry like Eugene Field, or make people laugh like Tim Hawkins. We are given talents and spiritual gifts according to the grace of God and we are to be thankful for them, work hard to perfect them and then place them in God's hands so that they can be used for His glory. Spiritual gifts differ from talents in that they are given to Christ-followers by the Holy Spirit, but both should be used for the advantage and salvation of others. The Bible says to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, and remember all He has given us and all He has done.
Psalms 139:14 - “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Colossians 3:17 - “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” 1Corinthians 12:4-5 – “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.” Romans 12:3 - “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
The song lyrics: "As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I'm lost without a cause, after giving it my all. Winter storms have come and darkened my sun. After all that I've been through, who on earth can I turn to? Lord, I look to You. My strength is gone, but in You I can be strong! And when melodies are gone, in You I hear a song. About to lose my breath, there's no more fighting left. I'm sinking to rise no more, searching for that open door. Every road that I've taken has led to my regret. I don't know if I'm gonna make it, nothing to do but lift my head and look to You, Lord. Hebrews 12:2 - “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
