When Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem, Mary was about to deliver her firstborn. Because there was no room in the inn, the innkeeper offered them the barn. They made do and filled the manger with hay for the baby’s bed and arranged a place for Mary to give birth to the Son of God. Imagine being great with child and traveling such a distance, only to find no room to deliver the Saviour of the World! Could the innkeeper have offered more? Could any of the guests given them their room, considering the circumstances? Perhaps, but it was certainly God’s will the way it all played out. He humbled Himself and left heaven to become flesh and offer the gift of salvation. Had Jesus been born in a mansion, people wouldn’t feel as welcome as they did coming to a barn. Lowly shepherds and Kings from afar came to the stable, complete with animals, to bow before the newborn King.
Luke 2:4-7 – “And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Lyrics: Family hiding from the storm, found no place at the keeper's door; it was for this a Child was born to save a world so cold and hollow. Lying in a manger low, a Saviour King has come to heal our sorrows. Is there room in your heart for God to write His story? Shepherds counting sheep in the night do not fear the Glory Light. You are precious in His sight! God has come to raise the lowly. The road is straight and the burden's light, for in His hands He holds tomorrow. You can come as you are but it may set you apart when you make room in your heart for His glory!
Both then and now, anyone willing to humble himself may come to our King Jesus. Is there room in your heart for that much Love?
