Jesus & John Wayne

Were you raised knowing Jesus and in a good church family? If so, what a blessing! Some folks have never heard the name of Jesus or stepped inside of a church building, and therefore do not know about His saving grace. Maybe your Mama read the Bible to you? maybe your Dad? maybe nobody at all. But His Word is available everywhere in the U.S., it is powerful, it is Living and able to save your soul! God made us in His image and wants us to conform NOT to this world, but to Him. Our purpose in life is to know Him, Love Him and share Him ... so simple yet not always easy. How do you get to know Jesus? Read His Word. Study His Word. Meditate on His Word. Memorize His Word. Live His Word and keep it in your heart so you can share it with others. Jesus IS The Word.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” 1John 2:6 - He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” Ephesians 4:22-24 – “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Psalms 119:160 - “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.”

Song Lyrics: Daddy was a cowboy, hard as a rock. Mama, she was quiet as a prayer. Daddy would always tell me, "Son, you gotta be tough.” Mama would kiss my cheek and say, “Play fair.” I did my best to make them proud of me, but it's never been an easy place to be … somewhere between Jesus and John Wayne … a cowboy and a saint, crossing the open range! I try to be more like You, Lord but most days I know I ain't. I'm somewhere between Jesus and John Wayne. Mama's love was tender, Daddy's love was strong. They taught me to stand up and fight for what is right and showed me how to turn the other cheek. There's a bit of both of them in me, but I try to be more like Jesus, even though most days I fall short. I’m somewhere between Jesus and John Wayne, but if I keep reading my Bible and get on my knees and pray, soon I will be more and more like Jesus every day!

Wherever you fall on the “knowing Jesus” spectrum, it is a process. When you are spiritually born, you begin to desire the “milk” of the Word, as a baby desires milk. As you begin to grow spiritually, God will feed you more and more. So even if you’re more like John Wayne than Jesus right now, keep on keepin’ on. Pray and ask for His wisdom. The goal is always JESUS!
