Today’s message is a salute to couples who have been married and stayed married. Despite over a 50% divorce rate in the U.S. (churches included) today, there are those who have been faithful and remained together 'for better or worse.'
Marriage is a covenant not only between a man and a woman, but also with God … a marital trinity. Marriage Takes Three.
Ecclesiastes 5:4 - “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.”
Newsflash: The Marriage Covenant is not ours to redefine.
Matthew 19:4-6 – “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made [them] at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (twain=two)
When you say, “I do”, you’re promising God that you will be faithful to your spouse as well as to Him. God created us in His image; our marriage should reflect God’s image to a world that desperately needs to see Who He is.
After all these years,
how could I not do this all over again?
After all these years we’ve shared
with our Lord, our children and friends?
And through the trials and fears,
the smiles and tears,
the Lord has seen us through.
So after all these years,
how could I not say, “I still do?”
God put us together and joined our two hearts,
and what the Lord has joined together,
no one could tear apart.
Through our life and love,
the Lord above has blessed us beyond measure.
Honey, after all these years,
how could I not say, “I still do?”
1Corinthians 7:3 - “Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.”
Benevolence = kindly act. Our society has become egocentric, putting the focus on “me” instead of “Him”. Even if your marriage seems beyond repair at the moment, when you place God at the head of your union, stay focused on Him, pray together and resolve to keep your vows, everything else will fall into place. Yielding to His Word brings joy and blessings beyond measure.
His grace is bigger than our problems.
Single? This is still good information to hold in your heart ... and share with others!
