Today’s featured song reminds me of a favorite movie our family watched over and over again when the kids were still living at home – “Though None Go With Me”. It’s a great movie for your watchlist (trailer link below) about devoting your life to serving God; the trials and sorrows that come with life and test our faith; and how God cares for and protects His children. The movie title is from the beloved hymn, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”
I have decided to follow Jesus; no turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me, I still will follow; no turning back, no turning back. The world behind me, the cross before me; no turning back, no turning back.
What we do with Christ is a personal decision. No one can make the decision for you, it is one you alone must make. This thing called ‘life’ is not a bed of roses, and being a Christ-follower is not a bed of roses, either. Believers still have a sin nature and satan still attacks. But not only has God promised the hope of eternal life, He has promised to never leave nor forsake us and to give us strength and comfort when we need Him. Our job is to walk uprightly; He’ll take care of the rest. He is the God of mercy and grace!
2Peter 1:4 - “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Psalms 84:11 - “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
When the going gets tough and you want to ‘turn back,’ be encouraged by the apostle Paul’s words in 2Corinthians 7:1 - “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
We have no better defender and shield than God Almighty! Make up your mind to leave the world behind … no turning back!
