Music is such a big part of our lives; it is, in part, what helped to inspire this website. The unique link to music and God’s Word helps connect us to Jesus each day (thank You, Lord … and songwriters!). An entire Book of the Bible is songs to the Lord … The Book of Psalms (psalms=songs). The Greek translation is ψαλμοί (psalmoi). Words are powerful … they can build up or tear down; encourage or discourage. Today’s song is an oldie, originally by The Carpenters. While the lyrics might not have been written as if being sung to the Lord, we can sing it that way … sing to the Lord! If you’re saved/spiritually born, think back to that “first-saved” feeling of being “on top of the world” … everything is so new, so beautiful, so joyful. It still is! If you’ve got Jesus in your heart, how can it be otherwise?
Psalms 47:6 - “Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.” Psalms 68:32 - “Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah:” Psalms 105:2 - “Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.” Proverbs 18:21a - “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: …” Proverbs 16:24 - “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” Psalms 96:2 - “Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.”
Song Lyrics: “Such a feelin's comin' over me … there is wonder in most every thing I see! Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes and I won't be surprised if it's a dream. Everything I want the world to be is now comin' true, especially for me. And the reason is clear, it's because You are here, You're the nearest thing to Heaven that I've seen! I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation and the only explanation I can find is the love that I've found ever since You've been around … Your love's put me at the top of the world! Somethin' in the wind has learned my name and it's tellin' me that things are not the same in the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze, there's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me. There is only one wish on my mind: When this day is through, I hope that I will find that tomorrow will be just the same for You and me. All I need will be mine if You are here. Your love's put me at the top of the world!”
Christ-follower, don’t let the world get you down … you are on top of the world with Jesus in your heart to stay!
