Operator, Information Please

Depending upon your age, you may or may not remember the old telephone systems where when you dialed zero on your rotary dial phone and said, “Information Please” to the switchboard operator, he or she would help you with your quest. This was before “4-1-1” and the internet. Saying "Information Please" to the telephone operator was an open door into the big wide world. There’s a story about a young boy named Paul Villard who discovered a very helpful telephone operator and would call her quite often for help with all kinds of boyish questions and concerns. It is a heartwarming story of wisdom, guidance, kindness, acceptance, patience, security, and love … and is a reminder of how all of those attributes come from the Lord. ** Read the touching short story here.**

John 1:1 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Proverbs 30:5 - “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” 1Thessalonians 2:13 -“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” Psalms 56:10 - “In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.” 2Timothy 3:14-17 – “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

Our Bible, God’s Holy Word, is our complete source of information ... it’s our “telephone operator, 4-1-1 and internet search engine”, only it is perfect and never-changing. The Bible is our authority and compass, pointing us in the direction we should go. It is full of wisdom, guidance, kindness, acceptance, patience, eternal security, Love ... not only for this physical, earthly life but more importantly, it holds the key to eternal life in heaven when we die. Telephone operators provide a wonderful service still today. But unlike humans, God is eternal. He is always there for us and will never fail us. He is the Living Word. The next time you grab your phone to “Google” something, why not search the Bible for the answer instead?
