When you hear the word ‘perfect’, what or who comes to mind? Webster’s dictionary defines ‘perfect’ as 'being entirely without fault or defect, flawless; satisfying all requirements, accurate.'
The word ‘perfect’ (and derivatives of the word) appears in the Bible 123 times. As with all things, Christ-followers look to the Bible for answers. God is perfection personified (Jesus); He lived a perfect life. Matthew 5:48 - “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
We, on the other hand, are all born sinners. When we receive Christ as Saviour through spiritual birth, He dwells in us and our love is made perfect. 1John 4:16-18 – “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
Christ-followers are to strive to be like Christ. Psalms 101:2 - “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way ... I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.”
I found The Truth; I’m daring to
dive right in and follow Your lead.
Jesus, You are my hope, beautiful and sweet.
I always knew that there was
something waiting for me.
I was so lost till I found Your love,
not knowing who I was.
But You’ve never given up on me!
Lord, Your heart is all I want.
Though I was a mess,
He’s still given me His best.
Jesus is my peace, my joy, my promise …
He is my home.
Lord, I don’t deserve it,
but Your grace is perfect.
2Corinthians 13:11 - “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
