Play Your Drum For Him

"The Little Drummer Boy" (originally titled "Carol of the Drum") was written in 1941 by Katherine K. Davis. The song describes how a poor young boy was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity of Jesus. Without a gift for the Infant Christ, with Mary’s permission, the little drummer boy played his drum for baby Jesus.

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum, a newborn King to see, pa rum pum pum pum. Our finest gifts we bring, to lay before the King, so to honor Him when we come. Little baby, I am a poor boy too; I have no gift to bring that's fit to give our King. Shall I play for you? Mary nodded; the ox and lamb kept time. I played my best for Him, then He smiled at me … me and my drum!

Matthew 2:11 - “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” 1Corinthians 6:20 - “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”

Jesus doesn’t want or need our material gifts. He wants us ... our time, talents and treasures ... to “play our drum for Him”. It is He Who has a gift for us ... an eternal gift … have you received it? We were bought with a price. After receiving His gift, He wants us to share it with others … to tell them about His saving grace and gift of eternal life ... the finest gift! What gift(s) are you giving our King, not just today but every day?
