What do you think of that makes you feel happy, that makes you smile? Scientifically speaking, when our brains feel happy, endorphins are produced and signals are transmitted to our facial muscles to trigger a smile.
Did you know that happiness is actually a fleeting, external feeling usually sparked by a specific event or achievement?
How do you get that internal, long-lasting feeling of well-being; that deeper, emotional connection?
In a word: JOY.
God Himself will rejoice over those who choose to spend eternity with Him. But where do we get joy?
Zephaniah 3:17 - “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
Joy comes from the LORD, whereas happiness is momentary and can vary greatly.
Romans 15:13 - “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Joy is one of nine fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22. When we are joyful, we can SMILE BIG! :)
Joy comes through the power of the Holy Ghost. The word “joy” appears in the Bible 155 times; variants of the word (joyful, joyous, etc.) appear another 36 times.
God speaks to His children and His Word says there is joy in fellowships, forgiveness and even joy in sufferings.
Romans 5:3-5 – “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
As we mature in Christ, we learn that it indeed is possible to be joyful when tribulations come because we see God working in our lives, teaching us through each trial; we know when troubles come that we can seek help from the Holy Ghost and the LORD will sustain us.
Romans 14:17 - “For the kingdom of God is …righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:13 - “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many, who shall have everlasting joy. Are you ransomed of the LORD?
Isaiah 35:10 - “And the ransomed of the LORD shall …come … with … everlasting joy … they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
