"Thou shall not kill" is the ‘sixth commandment’ given Moses. The words 'kill' and 'murder' both mean taking a life but the word "kill" can be broken down into two meanings. In the New Testament, Matthew 19:18 - “… Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, …”
Killing encompasses taking any life, deliberately or by accident, legally or illegally, morally or immorally. Thus, you might say,
“I killed a fly” not "I murdered a fly."
“The driver was accidentally killed," not "The driver was accidentally murdered."
There is moral killing -- when done in self-defense against an aggressor -- and there is immoral killing which is murder.
The sixth commandment speaks directly to the act of ‘immoral killing (murder) of a human being’. Thou shalt not kill. Jesus fulfilled the law of the Old Testament. It is ‘immoral killing’ (murder) that Jesus commands against in the New Testament.
Today’s song is "Speak Life"
So speak life, speak life.
To the deadest darkest night.
Speak life, speak life.
When the sun won't shine and you don't know why.
Look into the eyes of the broken-hearted;
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,
You speak love, you speak...
You speak life, you speak life.
Lift your head a little higher,
Spread the love like fire,
Hope will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the words you say.
Raise your thoughts a little higher,
Use your words to inspire,
Joy will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the things you say.
Old Testament Exodus 20:13 - "Thou shalt not kill."
New Testament Matthew 19:18 - "He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,"
