Tapestry of Life

VBS4ever

Corrie ten Boom's poem, The Tapestry, is a beautiful illustration of how our life experiences and choices are woven together with God into a one-of-a-kind tapestry. Colorful threads are woven within each twist and turn, each high and low that when complete creates a beautiful mosaic.

God made each of us unique; no tapestry is the same. Some are small, portraying a life cut short; some dark and dull, depicting souls who have chosen evil; and some large with brilliant hues characterizing a life well-lived. What will your tapestry look like?

Death makes us all step back to reflect, remember, and sometimes even feel regret; death makes us ask, Why?

In our grief, we naturally turn our thoughts to the departed loved one’s eternal destiny.

A phone call on Christmas day confirmed the shocking news that a cousin had passed away. Reflecting over the last few months, it became clear how God had orchestrated her last days to allow us time together studying His Word.

As children, we enjoyed family events; as adults we would periodically meet for lunch to catch up on the latest with our families and reflect on the past. Each life touches another differently; just as tapestries are unique, so are the viewpoints and memories we hold.

A 'change in threads' occurred six months ago during the latest luncheon. It was clear my cousin was searching for something deeper, so along with others, we began meeting weekly for a Bible study, focusing on God’s plan of salvation, God’s Word and eternal security.

Each week as she and our group grew closer to the Lord, my cousin's request was always the same: "Please pray for my children and family." She was excited to soon be traveling to see her Mom and celebrate Christmas. Little did any of us know that God was weaving what was to be Jill’s final threads.

One of her favorite songs was “Landslide” written by Stevie Nicks. The lyrics were inspired by the Colorado mountains with the thought that everything built up in life could come to an end at any time. Like tapestry, the words describe a tale of life artfully woven behind the metaphor of a snowy mountain avalanche.

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? Time makes you bolder; even children get older, and I'm getting older too. ~ Landslide lyrics, Stevie Nicks

In less than three weeks, while on break for the holidays, this healthy woman became ill and met her Maker. God knows when the end of our weave is ready to be tied off. In this case, He wove a Bible study into a tapestry to allow this special family member to make a choice about her eternity … one that we all must make if we want to spend it with God in Heaven.

John 5:24 - “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

Jesus came so that we might live … spiritually.

John 10:10 - “… I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Jesus Christ gave the gift ... by grace through faith. It is up to us whether we accept His gift or refuse it.

Ephesians 2:8 - “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Consider the tapestry of your life. When the weaving loom is silent and God unrolls the canvas, will your threads be dark, or of rich and royal hue?
