The Romans Road

Updated: Nov 17

Today, let’s take a trip down ‘The Romans Road to Salvation’ -- a practical, straightforward way of understanding and sharing the basic salvation message of Christianity. You’ve heard the saying, “All roads lead to Rome.” When the Roman Empire developed a road system that connected the various provinces and major cities, it made for easier and more efficient trade, commerce, and transportation for the Empire. All the roads eventually led to Rome itself.

The Bible contains key verses from Paul’s epistle to the Romans that form a ‘road’ leading to the understanding of the gospel message of Jesus Christ … “God’s simple plan of salvation.”

Romans 3:10 - “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” No human being is “righteous”. (‘Righteous’ means ‘right with God’.) Romans 3:23 - “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” We are all sinners in need of a Saviour. You say you’re ‘a good person’, especially when compared to others you know? That may be true but the standard is God Himself, not other humans. The standard is God’s holiness, and we all fall short. Romans 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Because of our sin, we have earned the wages of death. This includes both physical death and spiritual death. > Physical death is when your soul separates from your body. > Spiritual death is when your soul is separated from God. This separation extends into eternity for those who die in their lost and sinful state.

Because of our sin, we face the reality and inevitability of both physical death and eternal separation from God.

Romans 5:8 - “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” There is still hope! God doesn’t leave us hanging in our sinful state to face both physical and spiritual death. Even when we don’t deserve it, God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die in our place as a substitution for our sin.

Romans 10:13 - “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” We all fall short of God’s glory and face both physical and spiritual death, but the good news is that whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved! To ‘call upon the name of the Lord’ is explained -- Romans 10:9-10“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Confess ... Repent … Believe … Receive

Pray and tell God you are sorry for your sins; and that you believe Christ died, was buried and rose again on the third day to conquer sin and death. Believe this with all your heart and confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and you will receive the Holy Spirit and experience spiritual birth into God’s family.

1John 5:13 - “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

The ‘Romans Road’ is a great way to introduce people to the basic message of Christianity and to share your faith with others. Why not today?
