Have you ever been stunned or afraid when seeing something and exclaimed, “Oh my god!”? How about, “I swear to God, you’ll …” When we hear people flippantly say these things, it is upsetting; it’s disrespectful of God and we are commanded to not blaspheme His name, using it in a way that is not reverent.
Many are conditioned, through persistent and subtle lifestyle influences, to go along with things of this world. This is just one of many on a long list of human weaknesses. Too often, we hear in movies, advertisements and TV shows, actors misuse God’s Holy name. We have watched Christian-based TV and there will be an ad that shows an excited award recipient blaspheming God. It’s supposed to be funny … and to satan it is hilarious. Do we excuse this behavior? Some do. Similarly, some accept the changing of God’s Word, the Bible. If acceptance of sin is excused, how will future generations know the Truth if they’ve not seen it in its God-inspired form? (Which "bible" are you reading?)
If you are using God’s name in vain and breaking the Third Commandment, consider replacing the word ‘God’ with a new word: “Oh my friend!” and, “I swear to love …”. Be peculiar, discern; get back to the basics and think for yourself. God’s Love is more powerful than satan’s influence. You have the freedom to guide your soul either direction.
The Third Commandment Old Testament - Exodus 20:7 – “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” New Testament - Matthew 15:19 – “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:" Note: The definition of "blasphemies" from Merriam-Webster Dictionary: (a:) the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God (b:) the act of claiming the attributes of deity irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable
