We’ve all had friends and family members pass away, and along with death comes the decisions of the departed’s belongings … who gets what … the earthly inheritance. Many a family has argued and even split up over inheritance squabbles. Emotions run high and things are said and done that can’t be taken back, only forgiven. God tells us to lay up our treasures in heaven instead of here on earth; to be more concerned with our spiritual inheritance. Yes, Christ-followers (God’s spiritually born children) are heirs of God!
Romans 8:17 - “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Notice it says “IF” children ... you are not an heir of God until you become His child.) How do you become a child of God, an heir of God? You receive Him … His Holy Spirit … through spiritual birth. You are born once physically from your mother and born again, spiritually, by the grace of God and receiving His Son, Jesus Christ as Saviour. (See “Heirs of the Kingdom” below.) John 1:12 - “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Titus 3:7 - “That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Galatians 3:29 - “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

The things of this world will all pass away but the moment you become a child of God, your eternal life in Christ begins and the “importance” of the things of this world start fading away. Walking in faith, He leads and guides us when we ask Him to. God’s inheritance is worlds above any earthly inheritance you could ever imagine!
