Christian artist Matthew West and his daughter Lulu share a story in today’s song, about a young life taken too soon … a special version in honor of Lulu’s friend Sam. The song is a good reminder to us all to be kind to each other and speak Love. Many adults look back at their school years in horror … they somehow “didn’t fit in” and were laughed at, left out, bullied … and the hurt is still with them today. Just because someone is different … short, tall, fat, skinny, pretty, ugly, athletic, clumsy, dumb, smart … they still have the same feelings as everyone else. God says to Love everyone. Remember the “Golden Rule”? Do unto others … treat others the way you would like to be treated? So the next time you see or hear someone being mistreated, speak up! Don’t be afraid. You never know the circumstances someone might be is enduring ... maybe an alcoholic (or other addiction) family member, financial difficulties, abuse at home. Be a friend to those who are “different” … they’re usually the best friend you can have.
Matthew 7:12a - “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them ...” Ephesians 4:32 - “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” 1John 4:7-8 – “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” John 13:34a – “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you ..., that ye also love one another.” Matthew 5:16 - “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Lyrics: “Hey there, Sam, that sure was some smile on your face, standin' on the stage at the fifth grade Christmas play! You were everybody's friend, and nobody's enemy, but there were storm clouds deep inside you nobody else could see. What was really goin' on? And now we can't believe you're gone! Too young, too soon, this world lost you. Hearts break in two, too young, too soon. They say everybody's fightin' a hidden battle of their own, and I've fought my own enough to know it's true. Sometimes lonely makes it hard to see that you're really not alone. We would've gladly stood beside to fight your fight with you, but now we ask God, “Why?” I never thought we'd have to say goodbye. So be kind, speak love, go find someone who needs a friend, reach out your hand. Don't point, don't laugh … life's too short for that! No cliques, start now, no one left out ‘cause hearts break in two for the too young, too soon.”
You never know when your kindness might make all the difference to someone. Shine God’s Light for all to see! Related post
