Our effectiveness on earth must not be gauged by comparing ourselves to others. We are to glorify God! ... not ourselves.
Matthew 5:16 quotes Jesus as saying, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
satan wants us to think accolades we receive from others for a job well done is the basis of our desire to do so. This is pride. We prove success, in God’s eyes, in faithfulness and service in all things on His behalf. If we focus on being God’s servant while serving others through our day-to-day lives it keeps us from slipping into satan’s trap of envy. The trap is a feeling of disdain for others if/when they receive more credit and attention than we do.
To God be the glory = He increases as we decrease.
I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
And you can take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all the Who's Who's and So-and-So's
That used to be the best at such-and-such
It wouldn't matter much.
I won't lie, it feels all right to see your name in lights
We all need an "atta-boy" or "atta-girl"
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world.
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love?
Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace
Who blessed Your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy
To God be the glory = He increases as we decrease.
